Fun and Leisure around Western North Carolina and in Franklin

These beautiful mountains of Franklin, NC offer many different avenues of relaxation.

If you looking for a high energy activity, there are multiple ways and levels of intensity to expend that energy!  Hiking, white water rafting, cycling, golfing, fishing, kayaking and tubing are all popular activities.

At a slower pace and in a less energetic fashion, try exploring downtown Franklin for a fun afternoon of visiting museums and antique shops along with a little shopping and dining.   Want another moderate and fun activity?  Try panning for that precious stone at one of the local gem mining venues.  Speaking from my own experience, it's exciting to find even the smallest ruby in your panning screen!

Of course, with one of North Carolina's largest forest right here in Macon County, the Natahala National Forest, as well as the most visited National Park in the US just 30 minutes north, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, you'll want to take many scenic drives and hikes to see breathtaking waterfalls and mountain visitas.  Some of our most beloved waterfalls are located right beside the road and don't require any hiking!  Certainly, no where else will you see such an abundance of wildflowers, plants, trees and wildlife as here in Western North Carolina.

Looking for an inside activity?  Take in a show at one of Franklin's newest attractions - the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts. This 1500 seat state-of-the-art facility presents the finest in performing arts to Franklin and surrounding towns.  Performances include plays, musical productions, dance and choral festivals, recitals, various musical genres including country, bluegrass, gospel, pop, contemporary Christian and more.  Audiences and performers rave about the stunning architecture, techinal facilities and impeccable acoustics of this facility.
